Birdlife at Thaba Bolayi
Thaba Bolayi Private Nature Reserve mostly consists of arid thornveld, bushveld and Mopane veld. An area which comes with its own unique birdlife.
The Limpopo Valley has a high density of raptors and species like Verreaux's Eagle, Martial Eagle, African Hawk-Eagle, Brown Snake Eagle and Black-chested Snake Eagle can be regularly seen. Common smaller raptors also include Pale Chanting Goshawk, Little Sparrowhawk, Shikra and Gabar Goshawk.
Quite a few species seen on Thaba Bolayi Reserve can also not commonly be found in many other areas of South-Africa. Some of these species include the Meyer's Parrot, Tropical Boubou, Grey-backed Camaroptera and Retz's Helmetshrike
We have also had our fair share of special visitors on the reserve which always take your breath away when you manage to find them. Some of the rare visitors seen at Thaba Bolayi include the Black Stork, Crested Guineafowl, Lesser Moorhen, African Crake, Greater Painted-snipe, Swallow-tailed Bee-eater and White-breasted Cuckooshrike.
We have recorded over 190 species at Thaba Bolayi Reserve and can't wait to see what we will find next!
